The Importance of Seeking Islamic Knowledge

The very first word revealed in the Quran was 'Iqra' — READ. Islam elevated knowledge to a religious obligation from its very first moment. **Quranic Commands** - 'Read in the name of your Lord who created.' (96:1) - 'Say: Are those who know equal to those who do not know?' (39:9) - 'Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees.' (58:11) **Prophetic Sayings** - 'Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.' (Ibn Majah) - 'The best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it.' - 'Whoever treads a path seeking knowledge, Allah makes his path to Paradise easy.' - 'Scholars are the inheritors of the Prophets.' **Types of Knowledge in Islam** 1. Fard Ayn (Individual Obligation): Basic religious knowledge every Muslim must know — Quran, Aqeedah, Fiqh of worship and transactions 2. Fard Kifayah (Collective Obligation): Specialized knowledge that the community collectively must have — medicine, engineering, Islamic jurisprudence **The Islamic Tradition of Learning** Islamic civilization produced the world's first universities: Al-Qarawiyyin in Morocco (859 CE) and Al-Azhar in Egypt (970 CE). Libraries in Baghdad, Cordoba, and Cairo contained millions of manuscripts. **Knowledge and Umrah** Learn everything about Umrah before you go. Study the Quran, the life of the Prophet, and Islamic history. Your journey to Makkah will be infinitely richer when your heart is filled with knowledge.
