The Miqat Boundaries: Where Umrah Pilgrims Enter Ihram

The Miqat (plural: Mawaqit) refers to the geographical boundaries around Makkah beyond which no Muslim intending Umrah or Hajj may pass without first entering the state of Ihram. There are five main Miqat points: **1. Dhu al-Hulayfah (Abar Ali)** The Miqat for pilgrims coming from Madinah, it is approximately 450 km from Makkah. This is the farthest Miqat from Makkah. **2. Juhfah (Near Rabigh)** The Miqat for pilgrims from Syria, Morocco, Egypt, and Europe. Pilgrims traveling from India via Jeddah who wish to visit Madinah first use this Miqat if they plan to enter Ihram at Rabigh. **3. Qarn al-Manazil (As-Sayl)** The Miqat for pilgrims from Najd (central Arabia) and most pilgrims from India and Pakistan who fly directly to Jeddah, as the plane passes over this point. **4. Pilgrims must enter Ihram before or at this point. On modern flights, the captain usually announces when the Miqat is approaching.
