The Power of Salawat: Blessings Upon the Prophet

Allah says in the Quran: 'Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to send] blessings upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace.' (33:56) **What is Salawat?** Salawat (singular: Salah) means sending blessings upon the Prophet (SAW). The most common form is: 'Allahumma salli ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad.' (SAW) **The Complete Salawat Ibrahim** Taught by the Prophet (SAW) himself: 'Allahumma salli ala Muhammadin wa ala ali Muhammadin, kama sallayta ala Ibrahima wa ala ali Ibrahima, innaka Hamidun Majid. Allahumma barik ala Muhammadin wa ala ali Muhammadin, kama barakta ala Ibrahima wa ala ali Ibrahima, innaka Hamidun Majid.' **The Rewards of Salawat** The Prophet (SAW) said: - 'Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah sends ten blessings upon him, erases ten of his sins, and raises him ten degrees.' (Nasa'i) - 'The closest people to me on the Day of Resurrection are those who sent the most Salawat upon me.' - The Prophet (SAW) called a person who did not send Salawat upon hearing his name 'miserly.' **When to Recite Salawat** - After Adhan - In every Salah (Tashahhud) - At the beginning and end of dua - On Fridays especially: 'Increase Salawat upon me on Fridays.' - Upon entering and leaving the mosque - During Tawaf and throughout the Umrah journey **In Madinah** Recite abundant Salawat when visiting the Prophet's grave: 'Assalamu alaika ya Rasoolallah wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.'
