The Story of Yajuj and Majuj (Gog and Magog) in Islam

Yajuj and Majuj (Gog and Magog) are among the most discussed signs of the end times in Islamic eschatology, mentioned explicitly in both the Quran and authentic hadith. **Quranic Mention: Dhul Qarnayn** Surah Al-Kahf (18:83-98) tells of Dhul Qarnayn, a great and righteous king who traveled to the eastern and western ends of the earth. A people complained to him that Yajuj and Majuj were causing chaos. Dhul Qarnayn built an iron and copper barrier (Sadd) to contain them, saying: 'This is a mercy from my Lord, but when the promise of my Lord comes, He will level it.' (18:98) **Their Description in Hadith** According to various hadiths, Yajuj and Majuj are a massive multitude of people who were contained behind the barrier. They attempt to break through every day but fail. When the time comes, they will break through and spread across the earth. **Their Emergence** They will emerge near the end of times, drinking rivers dry, killing on a massive scale. They will be destroyed by a disease (from gnats or worms on their necks) rather than human armies. **Connection to Isa (AS)** Yajuj and Majuj will emerge during the time of Isa (AS) after he returns to earth and kills Dajjal. Isa (AS) and the believers will take refuge on a mountain while Yajuj and Majuj spread destruction. **Lesson** Knowledge of the signs of the Last Hour motivates us to prepare our Akhirah, increase worship, and seek closeness to Allah before the trials of the end times arrive.
