The Story of the People of the Cave (Ashabus Kahf)

The story of Ashabus Kahf (Companions of the Cave) is told in Surah Al-Kahf (Chapter 18) and is one of the most fascinating narratives in the Quran. **The Story** A group of young men in an ancient city refused to worship idols and believed in one God. Fearing persecution, they took refuge in a cave, praying: 'Our Lord, grant us mercy from Yourself and guide us in our affair.' Allah caused them to sleep for 309 years. When they woke, they thought they had slept only a day or half a day. **Their Dog** Allah mentions even their dog, who accompanied them and was positioned at the entrance of the cave with paws stretched out. This detail shows Allah's care for all creatures and the virtue of good companionship. **The Discovery** When they sent one of their number to buy food, his ancient coins revealed the truth — centuries had passed and the world had changed entirely. Their city, now believing, was amazed and built a masjid over their cave. **Surah Kahf and Dajjal** The Prophet (SAW) commanded reciting the first and last 10 verses of Surah Al-Kahf as protection from Dajjal (the Antichrist) — the greatest trial at the end of times. **Friday Recitation** The Prophet (SAW) said: 'Whoever recites Surah Al-Kahf on Friday will have a light that will shine for him from one Friday to the next.'
