MAKKAH: Months of speculation ended on Wednesday evening when the Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques confirmed through the release of the annual Taraweeh Schedule ahead of Ramadan that Sheikh Saud Ash Shuraim has retired.
Earlier in January, Inside the Haramain reported that a prominent Imam of one of the Harams had resigned. Inside the Haramain revealed in February that the Imam in question was indeed Sheikh Saud Ash Shuraim.
The reasons behind his early retirement have not been revealed although sources told Inside the Haramain that it was upon the Imam’s Request.
Sheikh Shuraim was Imam and Khateeb of Masjid Al Haram for 32 years when he retired after leading his final Prayer in Masjid Al Haram, Makkah on 12 Rabi Al Awwal 1443.
One of the most recognizable Qa’rees of modern times, the Imam’s absence will leave the House of Allah without a familiar voice.
